Family office capital is helping to fund one of Miami's most recognisable hotel deals, as a partnership led by US investment firm Gencom acquires the InterContinental Miami. Miami-based White Bridge Capital and its international family office partners contributed a significant portion of the equity for the transaction, the companies said.

The 652-room waterfront hotel sits at 100 Chopin Plaza, where the Miami River meets Biscayne Bay, and has long been a fixture of the Downtown Miami skyline. It is Gencom's latest luxury hotel in Miami and its second InterContinental-branded property, following its purchase of the InterContinental New York Times Square in late 2025.

Family offices back high-barrier markets

According to the partners, the deal reflects continued institutional and family office interest in high-quality hospitality assets in markets that are hard to enter, backed by strong sponsors. White Bridge Capital is a private real estate investment and lending advisory firm that works with international family offices and sponsors to find, structure and manage real estate opportunities across the United States and other markets.

Tommy Campbell, founder and chief executive of White Bridge Capital, said the partnership reflects the firm's commitment to pursuing unique investment opportunities alongside best-in-class sponsors. Regina Garcia Handal, the firm's chief investment officer, added that the transaction reflects the investment philosophy of White Bridge and its family office partners: investing in irreplaceable assets with strong long-term fundamentals in premier gateway markets.

Deepening a Miami footprint

Gencom already owns a significant Miami portfolio. It co-developed The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne in the late 1990s and recently completed a transformation of the 423-room resort costing more than $100 million. In December 2025 it reacquired a majority interest in the 115-room Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove. Downtown, it is advancing Miami Riverbridge, a privately funded joint venture with Hyatt worth more than $1.5 billion that plans two hotels, 700 apartments and 50,000 square feet of public green space.

Alessandro Colantonio, chief investment officer at Gencom, described the hotel as a significant addition that deepens the firm's presence in one of the country's most dynamic markets. Ignasi Puig, managing director of acquisitions, said the hotel's recent capital investment, strong operating performance and mix of leisure, corporate and group business provide a solid base for long-term value creation for Gencom and its investors.

The 34-storey hotel recently completed a full renovation of its rooms, club lounge and outdoor event space. It has 35 meeting rooms and more than 90,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space. Gencom has $7 billion in assets under management and under development.

For family offices, the deal is another example of co-investing alongside specialist sponsors to gain exposure to trophy real estate in growing gateway cities.
