What is family office software?

Family office software is the set of systems a family office uses to consolidate, account for and report on a family’s total wealth: bank and custody accounts, private funds, direct investments, property and other assets, across every entity, trust and family member. The best family office software turns many data sources into one trusted picture, backed by accounting, documents and controlled access.

For a plain-English explainer of the software types and how offices buy them, see Simple’s family office software hub. Simple’s Family Office Software & Technology Report is the research behind it. This page is the hands-on comparison: 24 platforms, their stated facts side by side, and how to pick one.

Quick verdict: best family office software by need

There is no single best family office software. The right platform depends on whether your main gap is reporting, accounting, private-asset data or the family’s own experience. Single family office or multi-family office?

A single family office needs depth for one family: complex structures, private and direct investments, and simple, secure access for principals and the next generation. A multi-family office needs repeatable workflows across many families, client-level permissions, billing and CRM. Several platforms here serve both, but most are clearly stronger at one; ask each vendor how many clients of your type it supports.

How to choose: a 10-point checklist

  1. Name the problem. Write down the three reports or processes that hurt most.
  2. Map your structure. Entities, custodians, currencies and the share of private assets.
  3. Decide suite or stack. One platform reduces integration work; a core system plus specialist tools gives more depth.
  4. Test with your data. Include a private fund and a complex entity in the demo.
  5. Check data coverage. Get the feed list and confirm every custodian and bank you use.
  6. Check openness. APIs, data export and AI-assistant (MCP) connections, so you are not locked in.
  7. Verify security. Current SOC 2 or ISO 27001 reports, penetration-test summaries, data residency and access controls.
  8. Price three years, not one. Licences, implementation, data feeds, hosting and internal time.
  9. Speak to references. Two clients of similar size, ideally ones who switched systems.
  10. Be specific about AI. What it does today, what data it sees, where it runs and who reviews the output.

Many offices take a neutral view before speaking to vendors. Simple, the leading family office technology & AI advisory and a strategic partner to family offices, helps offices define requirements and shortlist providers; its family office software hub explains the main software types and its provider index lists more vendors.

What does family office software cost?

Most vendors quote per office. Common pricing models are a percentage or basis points of assets on the platform, a fixed annual licence by module, per-user seats, or a mix, plus one-off implementation and data-feed fees. A few vendors on this page publish figures:

Aleta

Aleta states pricing from $1,000 a month, not based on AUM (its comparison page).

FundCount

FundCount states starting prices of $35,899 a year for a single family office and $26,950 a year for a multi-family office, plus implementation (“digital transformation”) and hosting fees.

Masttro

No published price; Masttro states its pricing does not scale with AUM.

Kubera

Kubera states from $250 a year (Essentials) and $2,500 a year for Kubera Black, its tier for complex multi-entity wealth.

Technology is a small share of what a family office costs overall. The UBS Global Family Office Report 2025 put the average pure operating cost at 41.1 basis points of assets in 2024, with IT and technology about 7% of pure running costs in 2025. Citi says total family office costs, including external investment and non-investment advisers, typically average 1% to 2% of assets (Citi 2025 Global Family Office Report). In North America, the Family Office Operational Excellence Report 2025 by Campden Wealth with AlTi Tiedemann Global found average total costs from $1.2 million for small offices to $6.8 million for large ones, with technology (including cybersecurity) the fastest-growing cost line in 2024, up 5.7%.

Implementation: how long it takes

Timelines depend on the number of data sources and entities, how clean the history is, and how much you migrate. Vendor-stated examples: Asora says a wealth structure can be live in four weeks or less; Aleta states “a couple of weeks to 2–3 months” in its FAQ and 4–8 weeks on its comparison page; Addepar says timelines vary with legacy data and custodial feeds and assigns a dedicated team; FundCount scopes implementation in each quote; Canoe describes a five-phase onboarding. Plan internal time too: someone in the office has to own data mapping and sign-off.

AI in family office software: what the 2026 data says

  • In the 2026 Bank of America Family Office Study, 42% of the 355 US family offices surveyed said employees use AI today, and another 37% are interested. Among offices using AI, the main uses are data analysis (64%), meeting summaries (57%) and automation (49%). 83% say family members expect the office to keep implementing new technology.
  • The Citi Wealth 2026 Global Family Office Report (22 September 2026) says AI is shifting from experimentation to implementation, used in investment analysis, information management, reporting, workflow automation and decision support, while final decisions are still made by experienced people.
  • The RBC and Campden Wealth North America Family Office Report 2026 covers technology alongside operational costs, risk and governance.

In software terms, that shows up as document extraction (capital calls, statements, K-1s), reconciliation, report drafting and connections that let tools such as ChatGPT or Claude query the office’s data. Simple’s Family Office Software & Technology Report tracks how offices are adopting these tools.

Methodology and independence

  • Independent: Future Family Office is a publication, not a software vendor. No vendor paid to appear, and we do not rank platforms.
  • Selection: platforms that market a product to family offices on their own website, drawn from our 2025 list, the current Google results for “family office software” and Simple’s provider index.
  • Verification: every vendor fact comes from the vendor’s own website or announcement (linked in each card) and was checked on 28–29 October 2026. Prices and scale figures are as stated by the vendor. Where we could not find a fact, we wrote “Not published”.
  • What we did not do: no hands-on testing, no paid placements, no review scores, no estimated prices.
  • Screenshots: captured from each vendor’s public website in October 2026 for identification only.
  • Updates: reviewed quarterly. Vendors can send corrections with a source link.
  • Changelog: 29 October 2026: rebuilt for 2026 with 24 profiles, 6 emerging innovators, comparison tables, cost and AI data.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best software for family offices?

There is no single best family office software. Offices that mainly need consolidated reporting often shortlist platforms such as Addepar, Aleta, Masttro or Landytech; accounting-led offices look at FundCount, Archway, Asseta or SumIt; multi-family offices often add portals and CRM such as SS&C Black Diamond. Shortlist by category, then test with your own data.

How much does family office software cost?

Most vendors quote per office, using AUM-based fees, fixed licences, seats or a mix, plus implementation. Published examples: Aleta states from $1,000 a month; FundCount states from $26,950 a year (multi-family office) or $35,899 a year (single family office), plus fees. Compare total cost over three years.

What is the average cost of a family office?

The UBS Global Family Office Report 2025 put the average pure operating cost at 41.1 basis points of assets in 2024. Citi says total costs including external advisers typically average 1% to 2% of assets. In North America, Campden Wealth with AlTi Tiedemann Global found average totals from about $1.2 million for small offices to $6.8 million for large ones.

Who do billionaires use to manage their money?

Typically a single family office of their own, a multi-family office shared with other wealthy families, or a private bank, often in combination. Which one depends on the size and complexity of the wealth and how much control the family wants.

Does Mark Zuckerberg have a family office?

News reports, including Fortune (February 2025) and Observer (March 2025), say his wealth is managed by Iconiq Capital, which they describe as a multi-family office. Neither Iconiq nor Zuckerberg publishes its client list, so treat this as reported rather than confirmed.

What is the difference between family office accounting and reporting software?

Accounting software keeps the general ledger, bill pay and reconciliations for each entity. Reporting software consolidates investment data to show performance and exposure. Some platforms do both on one ledger; others integrate the two.

How long does it take to implement family office software?

Vendor-stated timelines range from four weeks or less (Asora) to several months, depending on data sources, entities and historical data. Ask for a written plan and speak to a reference client of similar size.

How are family offices using AI in 2026?

In the 2026 Bank of America Family Office Study, 42% of the 355 US family offices surveyed said employees use AI today, mainly for data analysis, meeting summaries and automation. Citi’s 2026 report says AI is moving from experimentation to implementation, with final decisions still made by people.

Is family office software secure?

Security varies. Several vendors here state SOC 2 Type II or ISO 27001 certification. Ask for current reports, data residency, encryption details and how access is restricted by family member and entity.
