Emerson Collective Fuels AI Revolution with $1B in Startup Backing

Laurene Powell Jobs’ Emerson Collective has been making significant moves in the AI space, investing in at least nine AI startups since 2022, according to data shared exclusively with CNBC by Fintrx. Emerson Collective, which focuses on education, the environment, and healthcare, has been involved in AI funding rounds totaling over $1 billion.

While specific amounts for individual investments aren’t disclosed, Emerson’s AI portfolio includes global companies such as a New York-based AI medical firm, a California image analyzer, a French large language model developer, and a Norwegian company that creates AI-powered tools for educators.

Emerson Collective has made over 130 investments, with more than half in technology, including a $415 million investment in French AI company Mistral and a $372 million round for Formation Bio, an AI-driven pharmaceutical company.

Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Steve Jobs, has a net worth of $11.5 billion. Emerson’s investments reflect a growing trend, with AI being the top focus for family offices in 2024, according to the UBS Global Family Office Report.
