Peter Hargreaves, the co-founder of Hargreaves Lansdown, one of the largest financial services business in the U.K has been investing in private equity funds and Blue Whale to expand his “embryonic” family office.

Hargreaves has sold £850 million worth of the investing company’s stocks since 2020, which he had never sold since the firm went public in 2007.

In an interview, the 75-year old billionaire said “We are expanding,” and he also said that he was focusing on investments for his “embryonic” family office.

The family office now has around £200 million in the Blue Whale Growth fund of Stephen Yiu, which is £175 million more than what was invested at its launch in 2017. The fund hit £1bn last month in assets.

Hargreaves also said that he was investing in private equity funds.

Apart from his family office, Hargreaves has also launched the Hargreaves Foundation, where he hired former Hargreaves Lansdown employees, such as Nigel Spence, and Alexandra Butler to help the foundation take off.
