Bloomberg, together with Hong Kong’s Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau (FSTB) and Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), has launched The Family Office Playbook — a detailed guide aimed at supporting family offices setting up or expanding in Hong Kong.
The Playbook, the latest initiative under Hong Kong Family Office Nexus (marking its first anniversary), highlights the city’s ambition to strengthen its role as a premier global hub for family offices. It lays out a structured roadmap for navigating Hong Kong’s regulatory, financial, and operational frameworks, enriched with insights from leading family offices both locally and globally. Contributors include executives from NF Trinity, Landmark Family Office, the Harilela family, and the Private Wealth Management Association.
Key sections of the Playbook cover:
- Strategic Establishment: Frameworks for building governance structures, legal entities, and long-term strategies.
- Regulatory Navigation: Step-by-step guidance on licensing, compliance, and wealth management regulations.
- Investment & Asset Management: Overviews of market opportunities, allocation approaches, and financial ecosystem dynamics.
- Operational Efficiency: Best practices for daily operations, technology use, and talent management.
- Succession & Philanthropy: Advice on legacy planning, wealth transfer, and philanthropic initiatives within Hong Kong’s context.
Christopher Hui, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, said the Playbook marks an important milestone for Hong Kong Family Office Nexus, which has already attracted over 4,000 global visitors to its digital platform. “This guide reflects our continued focus on making Hong Kong a global centre for family offices,” he noted.
Alpha Lau, Director-General of Investment Promotion at InvestHK, described Hong Kong as “a strategic nexus between East and West,” adding that the Playbook highlights the city’s unique advantages for family office growth.
Bing Li, Head of Asia Pacific at Bloomberg, said: “We’re proud to collaborate with FSTB and InvestHK to support the family office community through actionable insights, data, and technology.”
In conjunction with the launch, Bloomberg and the Hong Kong Academy for Wealth Legacy hosted a storytelling workshop on October 3, equipping family office leaders with communication tools to better share their narratives — an initiative aligned with the Playbook’s emphasis on community engagement and legacy-building.
