Ole Madsen's move from Spar Nord to Formuepleje means that the bank, which is based in Denmark, is losing one of its best-known faces.
The outgoing communications director has been at the bank for almost his entire career, and as well as having a natural focus on the communications side, he has been involved in the fintech industry's work with the established banking sector.
It wasn't an easy decision to leave the bank, says Madsen.
"Of course it isn't a decision that I just made yesterday. This was an opportunity I wanted to take, but decisions like this one are not the easiest ones in the world to make," he says.
The professional challenge in moving into the asset management sector was a determining factor in the decision making process.
"It is clear that there is a lot of capital that will need to be managed in the near future, and I will have a role where I can contribute to drawing even more attention to Formuepleje, which is already developing in a very exciting way," says Madsen. What will your mandate at the new job be?
"Formuepleje is already doing really well, and I think they have seen that I can get more people to consider using Formuepleje. It is definitely relevant for them to make the good work they are already doing more public."
A fintech guru from Northern Jutland
At Spar Nord, Ole Madsen has tried out different business areas since he joined the company 15 years ago, when he was in his mid-twenties.
"It has been a very unique place for me, and I have been allowed to grow with the role. I joined the bank as a communications specialist, but as the world has changed, I have also been allowed to try working in strategy, digitalization and M&A, and that has made it very exciting to be at the bank," he says, adding:
"Time will tell how it is at my new role.
" It is not certain that Madsen will continue to work with fintech at Formuepleje, which is something he has spent a lot of time on at Spar Nord.
What will it be like to let that go?
"It is always a little bit sad to say goodbye to something you have been happy about. But the fact that I have been the public face of fintech does not mean that it has been my efforts alone. It makes me really happy that there are good people who can step in," he says.
Didn't quite reach the top
During his time at Spar Nord, Madsen has been responsible for business development, among other things. This area will now be taken over by Martin Kudsk Rasmussen, who was promoted to management last week.
Have you missed out on anything by leaving?
"My decision was made exclusively based on my own interests and the potential I can see in the job at Formuepleje. I didn't know anything about promotions when I chose to take the other job," Madsen replies.
